Rosie is Ready to Launch in Chicago and Moving to Lakeview!
AS YOU KNOW,
Rosie O’Donnell is now in
Chicago, filming at Harpo Studios.
At her annual Rosie Theater Kids Gala recently in New York City, O’Donnell showed off her new girlfriend, Michelle Rounds. A knockout blond with a stunning figure, Rounds is a corporate headhunter for an I.T. company, People reports. And apparently the two women share a love of coffee.
“They met at a Starbucks a few months ago,” a source tells People. “They are adorable together and are very, very happy.”
The Rosie Show debuts on Oprah Winfrey‘s OWN network on Oct. 10.
Rosie reportedly just purchased a new $2.5 million townhouse in Lakeview! 6,000 sq. foot with a huge huge rooftop. The seller is an executive at the Oprah Winfrey Network, which will air O’Donnell’s new show, the sources told the Tribune. Somoene told me Rosie accidentally got LOCKED OUT. Stuck on the roof of her new digs! She and her realtor had to shout down to passerbys on the street, to get help!
The daytime host joked about her new gal pal, onstage at her gala, that she had just bought a new red bra “with the underpants that match and everything.”
The Emmy-winning working mama has four children with her ex-spouse Kelli Carpenter, whom she married in 2004. They divorced in 2007.
“(The divorce was) humbling. And humiliating,” O’Donnell told Oprah in the October issue of O magazine. “In the O’Donnell family , no one had ever been divorced.”
BEST GAY CHICAGO has been invited to a test taping for the new show – we’ll keep you posted!

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams Arrives in Chicago
In 1989 when the economy was unstable, Mitchell Gold and his partner, Bob Williams, naively created The Mitchell Gold Co. Since then, despite tough economic times and upheaval in the furniture industry, sales have reached in excess of $100 million. The combination of Gold’s years of marketing experience with Williams’ talents as art director set the course for Mitchell Gold and changed the furniture industry.
One of their earliest ideas, “Relaxed Design,” was based on trends they saw in the apparel industry. Designing furniture Bob Williams would want in his own home – comfortable, classic, affordable – he dressed his pieces in relaxed slipcovers of pre-washed fabrics like denim, khaki and velvet. He also addressed the need for a less-intimidating shopping experience by limiting choices to avoid confusing consumers. Along the way, Williams has received numerous awards, including Design 100 awards from Metropolitan Home magazine.
The company is now a leading home-furnishings brand, carried in such national chains as Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, Williams Sonoma Home, and Bloomingdale’s, as well as in more than 60 independent retailers nationwide. In addition, there is a growing chain of Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams Signature Stores – and they have arrived now in Chicago at 1555 N. Halsted, Lincoln Park, across from the new Apple store.
The grand opening happened last week was filed with hundreds of Chicago’s designers, movers and shakers. And DJ Lady Bunny. Bunny is a longtime freind of Gold and Williams and spins at every store opening.
Also there was very special guest: expert photog Tipper Gore, was there. Since moving on with her spirited journey through life, she’s had the chance to document some of the most photogenic people and places. Mitchell and Bob have decided they just love her so much, they needed to share her talent with the world, and they now carry a signed collection of her work in their stores. To celebrate Tipper’s skilled camera work and introduce her to Chicago’s interiors crowd, they’re having a 20% promotion on all of Tipper’s work.
In the mid 90’s, Gold and Wiliams lead the way in gay media advertising. They were one of the very first companies, to stand up and place major ads in LGBT media. Here was a nationally recognized furniture brand, portraying gay couples in ads! Recently, Mitchell Gold and Bob Williams received the Public Visibility Award from GLAAD for including LGBT stories in the advertising for their company Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams, and for their personal efforts to advocate for LGBT equality. “As with other forms of media, advertising has the power to change hearts and minds,” said GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios. “Companies that promote fair, accurate and inclusive images of the LGBT community in advertising send an important message to their customers, to corporations and to any consumer who sees their ads. We will be recognizing those companies that do just that, and in so doing, set a standard to which other companies may aspire.”
Also in attendance was 2011 HGTV Design Star winner Meg Caswell. Her show GREAT ROOMS airs on HGTV weekly 5pm (C) on Saturdays.
Her Design Studio is at 1242 N. Wells, is in an old firehouse with some antiques and accessories! You can see it, on some of her shows. Currently by appointment only. 773-883-6004

Crystal Bowersox Returns To Chicago – One Show Sept. 17th
Packed and ready for a move to Nashville, the “Farmer’s Daughter” singer now juggles married life as the mom of an infant son, Tony, and a blossoming music career thanks in large part to her stellar performances on the show that won her praise from none other than the notoriously picky Simon Cowell.
“I’m always writing,” she said of her songwriting prowess. “The move to Nashville will just be an asset to me. I want to be there, able to access all of the talent there…and plus, our house will have a bigger back yard!”
The woman who grew up poor began shaping a music career even before she was in high school. The idea to super size her goals came about when she learned she was pregnant and wanted to “give my son everything I never had growing up.”
“I don’t really consider myself an ‘Idol’ contestant,” she said while acknowledging her gratitude to the show. “I was a performer starting at ten years old and I played gigs all over. When I found out I was pregnant, I was playing $100 gigs. I had to find a way to do what I loved and provide for my family.”
Although she’s been embraced by the country music community, Bowersox is ready to let her music muse guide her into whatever genre feels right.
“I love country and pop and rock and all kinds of things,” she said rattling off her favorite performers including Eric Church whose latest single “Homeboy” she deemed “really cool” and the New Jersey-based duo Hoots & Hellmouth.””It used to be when I was a single lady living alone whenever the moment struck me I would write. Now I write down little phrases and lines and when it comes album time, I have all these notes. Sometimes, though, songs come from somewhere else and it could be pop or country or I don’t know.”
Crystal Bowersox returns to Chicago Septempber 17th, with one show at Dominican Univerisity, Lund Auditorium, 7900 West Division St. GET TICKETS ONLINE!~
Ben Cohen in Chicago this Week Promoting his STAND UP Anti-Bullying Project
In case you don’t know, the Gay Softball World Series is town this week!
Also in town is BEN COHEN, ranked as one the World’s Best Rugby Players.
At the top of his game, this heterosexual man decided to retire from Rugby to launch the world’s first organization dedicated solely to the cause of anti-bullying, wherever and to whomever it occurs. STAND UP with BEN COHEN.
Some years ago, early in the evolution of social media, a fan page for the English rugby player appeared on Facebook. “It had about 30,000 people on it at the time, and they were all men,” recalls Cohen.
Cohen, who is married with twin daughters, found the attention flattering, but also a responsibility. “People were telling us their stories, and I felt it was important to respond,” he says. “I know what bullying does, and I know it can tear you apart, and that, for a lot of young gay men or people who are perceived to be different, there is no family infrastructure to turn to, no support.”
He has been in town this week, making personal appearances and spreading his message.
TODAY, Tuesday August 30th – Ben will join the Chicago Dragons for Rugby Practice! On CRICKET HILL at Wilson and Lake Shore Drive , at 5-6pm.
Then from 8-11pm tonight, Ben will be at Sidetrack in Boystown hosting a live auction to raise money and awareness for his project. (Nicknamed BIG BEN, last year he donated one of his jockstraps to a charity event!)
Ben is very passionate about his project. He says, “We are not about a lot of hot air. We are a TAKE ACTION group!” Already in just four months, STAND UP has sky rocketed! And soon, a major sports goods label is going to jump on board….Nike? Adidas? they can’t say just yet, but the announcement is coming soon.

Rosie O’Donnell Sets up Camp in Chicago this Week at Harpo Studios
Of course, OWN will broadcast the show, which starts to air in October. (What are they doing between now and then??)
“It’s exciting for the neighborhood here, and certainly for Harpo. To have Rosie come here and do 130 original hours — it’s a lot of work. There’s a lot of energy and excitement,” Sheri Salata, President at Harpo says.
“Rosie so values Oprah’s team,” Salata goes on. “She’s thrilled to walk onto a stage that was once Oprah’s. It gives me a little tingle.”
O’Donnell has said her show will be less celebrity-focused than her prior Emmy-winning daytime show.
“The show will be about real people and real issues,” she told Oprah magazine. “I’ll focus on a single topic for one hour, things people deal with every day. Raising children. The education system in America. Autism. Relationships, health, weight, depression — and happy stuff too, of course. I envision the show being full of love and laughter.”
Rosie arrived this week at Harpo.I wonder if she will have an apartment at Trump Tower? (LOL)

Marilyn Monroe in Chicago?
This is kind of odd, I think….. a 26-foot statue of Marilyn Monroe replicating her famous subway scene in “The Seven Year Itch,” will be unveiled this Friday at 7:00p.m. on Chicago’s Pioneer Court. As of today the statue, by New Jersey based artist Seward Johnson is half-complete with the lower part of Monroe’s body viewable. Visitors to the plaza will see her legs, her iconic white sandals, and the skirt of her white dress as it blows in the wind exposing her “hot” panties. The top part of the statue is carefully wrapped in a patriotic red, white and blue cloth.
Johnson, born in 1930, is famous for his trompe l’oeil painted bronze statues that although criticized for being kitsch always draw attention and controversy. The artist’s work appears around the globe including a 25-foot version of “Unconditional Surrender,” the V-J kiss in Times Square. Chicagoans may remember Johnson’s famous “American Gothic” sculpture that graced Pioneer Court in 2008 or his King Lear statue that spent the summer and fall of 2009 in the same spot.
The statue is located just south of the Tribune Tower in Pioneer Court at 400 N. Michigan. Visitors are welcome to view and take pictures of this striking piece of public art. Zeller Realty Group, is responsible for Pioneer Court’s installations. For more pictures of the Marilyn Monroe bronze go to the home page of WGN radio The statue is expected to remain in place through Spring of 2012.

Chicago Bulls NBA Player Joakim Noah Shouts ‘Faggot’
He used the slur while sitting on the bench after arguing a call with a referee. – You know he will say “I’m Sorry…..” – yeah, sorry for being caught on camera!
CBS Sports reports on the episode and the comparisons from some members of the media to last month’s incident with Kobe Bryant.
Noah then appeared to yell a string of profanities and finished with what appears to be the exact phrase that Bryant was fined for using. The only difference: Noah was not addressing one of the officials.
Where does that $100,000 go exactly? They should donate it to a LGBT rights group!
Immediately, NBA analysts and media members took to Twitter to predict that Noah would be fined by the NBA league office. “Because the NBA fined Kobe, you think they’ll have to fine Noah,” CNBC’s Darren Rovell tweeted. “But it’s really the luck of the draw whether you’re caught on TV.” “No question he said exactly what Kobe said,” SI.com’s Zach Lowe added. “Get that $100k ready, Joakim.”
“I got caught up in the moment,” said Joakim Noah, his explanation for why he used an anti-gay slur during a game on Sunday. Mr. Noah apologized for the outburst, and that’s a start. But the fact that Mr. Noah immediately and instinctively turned to anti-gay language when he was angry and frustrated speaks to a larger, more dangerous undercurrent. Hate language is more than a bad word – it has real, tangible consequences, and we must hold our role models accountable.
CENTER ON HALSTED said, “We have invited Mr. Noah and the Chicago Bulls organization to get involved in the work we do to provide young people, many of whom are homeless and the victims of hate violence, a safe place to participate in sporting activities, where they can learn the value of teamwork, leadership, and healthy lifestyles.”

FREE TICKETS Dov Davidoff In Chicago with Bryan Callen April 14th
Dov Davidoff grew up in a junkyard,
lost his virginity at the age of twelve
with a prostitute in Mexico,
outed his gay cousin over a turkey leg
and he is incredibly funny (all true).
Combining hyper A.D.D. with an amusingly and acute take on things, Davidoff puts on one of the most high intensity shows in standup making him an audience favorite. It’s Davidoff’s impeccable ability to find common ground with EVERYONE that makes him a truly great comedian. He dissects the irony and problems of the world in a way that makes funny what otherwise isn’t. Dov’s material makes people think and look at themselves, but laugh hysterically while doing so.
Growing up splitting time between a hippie mom’s world travel and his dad’s New Jersey junkyard inspired comedy … and confusion. “I always felt outside the box as a person,” says Dov. “My mother was wrapped up with this commune/cult. I was in India as a kid. You’re around these people with these ethereal ideas … then I’d go back to the junkyard. It was a strange dichotomy. It left me with the desire to figure stuff out.”
He jokes about the largeness of Magnum condoms and how he sort of outed his gay cousin over a game of Pictionary and a Turkey leg!
“We hang out, we’re very close, me and Billy, everyone loves him. But every year my aunt ask’s the same the question…have you met any nice girls? Are you dating?? HE’S WEAR CAPRI PANTS! HE’S GAY! He’s not a little gay! He’s GAY GAY! I love the gay men! I never understood people who don’t like gay people.”
In addition to performing regularly in clubs and colleges throughout the country, Davidoff was recently named as one of VARIETY’S top 10 TO WATCH. Dov has most notably starred opposite Mark Wahlberg in the film “Invincible,” is seen on any number of TV shows, and co-starred with Jeff Goldblum in the NBC drama “Raines.” He is a regular fixture on COMEDY CENTRAL, and a frequent round table co-host on Chelsea Lately.
His hour comedy special aired on COMEDY CENTRAL to great reviews. “Filthy Operation” is coming out soon to DVD. There’s no doubt that Davidoff has established himself as one of the “MUST-SEE” acts on the scene today.

Rosie O’Donnell Returns to Daytime Talk At Harpo Studios in Chicago
“I’m delighted to welcome Rosie to the studio I’ve called home for so many years,” Winfrey said in a statement.
The network announced last summer that O’Donnell would return to television with a one-hour talk show to air on OWN. Originally they had said at the time that the show would be based in New York. But O’Donnell was convinced to move to Chicago for taping.
“I can’t wait to do my show from Chicago,” O’Donnell said in a statement. “It’s a dream come true … beyond the beyond.”
The final original episode of Winfrey’s show, which has been on the air for 25 years, is scheduled to air May 25.
Chicago’s Disco Diva Loleatta Holloway Dies
Disco Diva Loleatta Holloway died this week on March 21, 2011 from heart failure. The same day as Liz Taylor’s death. But there was so much buzz around Liz, most people didn’t even hear about Loleatta’s passing.
She was 64 years old. She is survived by her four children.
She was very well known for her disco songs such as “Hit and Run” and “Love Sensation“, both of which have been sampled extensively.
She had a rough time in the 80’s and 90’s.
In the late 1980s, her vocals from “Love Sensation” were used in the hit “Ride on Time” by Black Box. Holloway, however, was uncredited for her vocals, and both Holloway and her attorneys successfully sued the group, which lead to an undisclosed court settlement in Holloway’s favor. (You may remeber Martha Wash also had sue Black Box.)
Holloway’s fortunes dramatically improved, however, when she had her first US #1 hit when Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch featured her vocals in the chart-topping “Good Vibrations” (1991). Holloway also performed with Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch to promote the single, and she received full vocal credit and a share of the royalties.
HEAR and SEE some of her hits at this Chicago Dj site.
Rest in Peace dear Loleatta. Your voice will be missed.
