BEST GAY WEDDING in Chicago October 19th, 2013

This is going to be THE BEST GAY WEDDING in Chicago!

We met in July 4 1999 – and had a commitment
ceremony, exactly one year later, at the spot we met at.

In 2004 when
Domestic Partnerships became available in Ilinois, we signed up!

 In June 2011, we
joined 50 other couples on the steps of the Chicago History Museum, in a
mass Civil Union ceremony. One step closer
to marriage – but not quite there yet.

We hope Illinois does the right
thing and passes the Marriage bill for our state. We would love to be
legally married on our 15th anniversary, July 4, 2014!

In the meantime, we’re renewing our vows with a ceremony and an amazing reception!!

Minibar and MANY of our favorite local businesses have teamed together to do a $20,000  wedding package for 2 couples – and we are one of the couples! So we will be renewing our vows – for charity. This is the deal. NO GIFTS. We just ask that everyone make a $30 donation to Equality Illinois. HERE.

Get your tickets online now – or the day of, you can buy online – and there should be tickets at the door. But if you can buy online – that helps with headcount for food and such.

HERE”S THE SCOOP! You donate $30 that goes 100% directly to the MARCH ON SPRINGFIELD charity; whose goal is to push the vote for complete equality in marriage for everyone in Illinois. We ask that you take this event seriously and with great pride, as we can all do a little to accomplish big things!  – So come enjoy a 3 hour wedding celebration for charity!  With champagne, dinner, cake and entertainment! 3 hours of fun, $30 for a great cause!  SATURDAY  OCTOBER  19th  7-10pm. 3341 N. Halsted

 It’s going to be an
awesome event as minibar is transformed into a beautiful wedding space!
Matthew Harvat of E Malone will decorate the space with gorgeous flowers and designer Ramsey Prince is the event planner and says the space will WOW  everyone! Minibar has donated the space, the dinners and the champagne!  Sugar Hills Bakery are creating 2 amazing cakes!  And more and more!

Crimes Continue in Boystown – Lakeview

 When will this madness stop?

Every week, we seem to see more and more crimes, usually late night, in Boystown – Lakeview.
But when you look at the Historic Crime Trend data from Chicago Tribune, is it really high or not?
Maybe because we receive our news so fast, it just appears to be growing at record rates.

CrimeInBoystown blog ran a piece yesterday about a Community Alert issued from the Police Department.

The first alert connects three attacks by men or groups of men in which a
hammer is used to threaten and/or strike the victim. Included in the
alert is a robbery in the 3000 block of N. Seminary that CWB reported on this morning.
The second alert details robberies and purse-snatchings that have been
pulled off by individuals who may be men dressed as women.

This alert is connected to five incidents, four of which have been previously reported on CWB:

• Saturday’s pepper spraying/robbery at Sheffield and Cornelia.

• Saturday’s 7PM attack outside of Berlin nightclub, 954 W. Belmont.

• Yesterdays  incidents at Cornelia and Racine as well as the one at Belmont and Broadway.

CrimeInBoystown have uploaded the CPD-issued PDF files of these two alerts to our Google Drive for download. Alert 1 here and alert 2 here.

Should we Boycott STOLI Vodka?

STOLI could be in a little hot water. Some LGBT groups are already calling for a boycott of the upcoming Winter Olympics in Russia. Now, Vodka. Gay drink lots of Vodka! But Stoli has also been a supporter of the LGBT community…

Queer Nation has  organized  a boycott of Russian vodka.

From their statement:

In light of the Putin regime’s attacks on the LGBT community, Queer Nation is calling for a worldwide boycott of Russian vodka.

Do not buy or drink Russian vodka: Brands
include Russian Standard and Stolichnaya. Demand that bar owners do not
buy or serve Russian vodka. Ask your favorite club promoters, DJs, and
entertainers to insist that Russian brands are not served in the venues
in which they perform.

It’s time to target Russia. Dump Russian vodka!

Stoli has shown support to LGBT community in the past – is a boycott the answer, to send a message to Russian Government? At first, I wasn’t sure it was the right choice – but now I do – even
though Stoli has shown support to the gay community, the Russian
government still shares in Stoli’s profits. We MUST put pressure where we
can, so they stop this madness over there!

Chicagoin Dan Savage, columnist, author, and founder of the It Gets Better Project, published an article in Seattle’s independent newspaper The Stranger on Wednesday titled
“Why I’m Boycotting Russian Vodka,” urging gay bars to stop serving the
brand and others like Russian Standard, Shustov, Starka, and Stolnaya.

“[T]here is something we can do right here, right now, in Seattle and
other U.S. cities to show our solidarity with Russian queers and their
allies,” wrote Savage on Wednesday. “And to help to draw international
attention to the persecution of gay men, lesbians, bisexuals, trans
people, and straight allies in Putin’s increasingly fascistic Russia:
DUMP RUSSIAN VODKA.”

Sidetrack, Chicago’s largest gay bar, and allegedly the biggest seller of vodka in gay bars in the country!  announced yesterday that it would
remove Stolichnaya and other Russian brands from its shelves,
according
to the Windy City Times. Another Chicago gay bar, Call, joined the boycott. Replay, Hydrate, Elixir and Halsteds are also pulling Russian vodkas from their shelves!

The SPI Group, which owns Stolichnaya Vodka, contacted The Advocate
today to release an open letter to the LGBT community. The statement
stressed that Stoli “firmly opposes such attitude and actions” committed
by the Russian government and continues to be a “fervent supporter and
friend” of the community, pointing to past endorsements of Pride events
and LGBT organizations.

The statement claimed that the Luxembourg-based company is not
affiliated with the Russian government, and that the vodka’s production
is divided between Russia and Latvia.

Lakeview to Become Bike Haven

Divvy is your Chicago Bike Sharing System

with thousands of bicycles available to you 24/7.

Divvy is Chicago’s bike sharing system with 4,000 bikes and 400 stations
across the city. Intended to provide Chicagoans with an additional
transportation option for getting around the city, Divvy is fun, easy,
and affordable.

I am not sure I love this idea – bike crazies already do not know how to properly interact with cars – I think this is all going to get worse having so many extra bikes around town.

LAKEVIEW  will get 40 MORE locations this month!

Check out the Lakeview locations map by Andy Ambrosius at Lakeview Patch.
