Best Gay Dining in Chicago Boystown @ Taverna 750
If you live here, I am sure you know all about Taverna 750. For the LGBT visitor, sometimes you need to venture off Halsted to find our hidden gems. Some of our favorite, neighborhood hotspots are tucked away, just slightly off the gay-beaten path.
Taverna 750 is one of the newest, brightest and now busiest restaurants in Boystown. After a near tear-down renovation of the property at 750 West Cornelia, a true gem of an establishment emerged just a stone throws away from the main gay drag. Since it’s opening in 2011, critics have consistently voted Taverna750 such accolades as Best Italian Restaurant, Best Hidden Gem, Best Date Restaurant, Best Brunch and Best Sidewalk Café in Boystown Chicago. Taverna 750 is a blend of old-school, family recipes and Italian hospitality perfectly mixed with a today’s metropolitan flair and understanding of distinctive cuisine, crafted cocktails, décor and ambiance.
Owner Paul D. Cannella credits much of his inspiration to his Grandfather and Uncle’s classic Italian restaurant. Chicagoan’s enjoyed the downtown spot on Grand Avenue for several decades. Paul and his talented team tweak family recipes to a new culinary perfection and locals agree the tastes and flavors are spot on. Cannella does not prefer labeling Taverna750 as a tapas restaurant. It quickly becomes clear as plates arrive that the portions served are larger than one usually receives at many small plate eateries. The plate sharing and placing dishes in the center of the table has been encouraged by staff and embraced by guests. “I think because everyone wants to sample and try as much as possible, and that’s a good thing, plenty of sharing goes on here!” says Cannela.
Expect delicious, fresh and unexpected nightly food and drink temptations. Regular house staples and crafted cocktails change seasonally. Don’t expect food, wine and cocktail prices to break the bank! A meal enjoyed here is as affordable as memorable. Saturday and Sunday offer weekend Champagne and Martini Brunch packages for $24-$27 that are hugely popular. The Martini Brunch includes two delicious courses, two 750 Specialty Martinis and LOTS of Champagne! Brunch is served Saturday 11am-2pm and Sunday 11am-3pm. Dinner is served nightly from 6pm-11pm, Midnight on Fridays and Saturdays. Reservations are always highly suggested.
Everyone seems to agree, the food, the drinks, the decor and the staff are terrific. Check out all the positive YELP! reviews and be sure to add Taverna750 as a must-visit restaurant when in Boystown. TAVERNA 750
Pssst….Patio Season is just around the corner and Taverna has one the most lush patios, perfect for al fresco dining!

Best Thin Crust Pizza in Chicago
this popular carry-out neighborhood spot serve’s up fresh and healthy
Italian cuisine. Family-owned and operated since 1994 all their food is
homemade from the sauces to the sausage. If you are a lover of
NYC-style pizza you’ll love their cheesy, thin-crust pies. They also
offer appetizers, soups, salads, pasta and delicious desserts.
The owner, Craig was a former chef of the Chicago Yacht Club and the
Ritz Carlton. At the urging of his family Craig left the chef world to
open this business.
We moved into the neighborhood at the edge
of Boystown/Buena Park/Uptown discovered BoJono’s about 9 years ago and
have been loyal customers ever since. I swear their Hot Buffalo Chicken Wings are the BEST I have ever had. And we love to order a thin crust Margherita-style pizza with fresh sliced tomotoes, fresh basil or spinach and their chopped spicy cajun chicken!
The pizza is available thin crust, pan or stuffed.
They do an awesome Vegetarian Delight Pizza with
Broccoli, Mushrooms, Sun-Dried Tomatoes & Onions.
A Mexican-style Taco Pizza with Refried Beans, Tortilla Chips, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion & Ground Beef.
And a tangy BBQ Pizza with Chicken, BBQ Sauce & Onions.

Besides pizza, they also offer soups, sandwiches, salads and a great selection of entrees.
Specialty dishes among our favorites are their Stuffed Shells. Jumbo Shells Stuffed with Spinach & Ricotta Cheese, Baked with Mozzarella & Marina.
also BoJono’s Cajun Pasta with Chicken, Red Peppers & Onions in a Special Tangy Cajun Cream Sauce.
Don’t take our word for it – look at what others have to say….
“Chopped Chicken Pasta Salad, great amount for a great price.”
“Mostly
however I come here for the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich with a side of
steak fries and a extra container of Bleu Cheese dressing. The first for
the sandwich, the second for the fries. This is what it is all about!”
“I
first had Bojono’s about 4 years ago when I had a bite of a friend’s
taco pizza. It was pretty good. So the next time that I wanted to
order delivery, my friend suggested Bojono’s but not their pizza. I
ended up ordering Bojono’s salad and Bojono’s Cajun Touch pasta all on a
recommendation! Since then, I have probably ordered this 50 times.”

“Bojono’s absolutely has the BEST thin crust pizza I have ever had. It’s fresh, always well made, and I love their sauce!”
If you can’t make it in, have it delivered.
They just launched an interactive online ordering system. Place your order online and the system will remember you next time! Delivered right to your home or office.

Shane Bitney Crone, Producer and subject of the film
BRIDEGROOM tells the emotional journey of Shane and Tom, two young men
in a loving, committed relationship, with plans toward a bright future
together. Those plans take a tragic turn when Tom is accidentally killed
and Shane is refused from attending the funeral. This film tells the
story of how people without the legal protections of marriage can find
themselves ostracized from their loved ones. The events that transpired
after Tom’s death open a window onto the issue of marriage equality and
basic human rights.
The film was written, directed and produced
by Linda Bloodworth Thomason, creator of Designing Women, and inspired
by the powerful YouTube video, “It Could Happen To You,” by Shane Bitney
