Hubbard Street Dance to Open Series with Twyla Tharp Premiere

The world-renowned and celebrated Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, led by Artistic Director Glenn Edgerton, will launch its 34th season with the most anticipated dance event of the year featuring a world premiere by dance legend Twyla Tharp; the return of the reflective Arcangelo by Nacho Duato based on the marvelous Concerti Grossi by Arcangelo Corelli; and the hilariously bizarre Walking Mad by Johan Inger.

This eclectic engagement will take place at the Harris Theater for Music and Dance, 205 E. Randolph Drive, in four performances only, October 13-16, 2011.

When Glenn and I met we discussed many ideas,” notes Twyla Tharp.  “When he asked me for a new work, I thought to myself, ‘Great, I’ve always enjoyed the vitality of Hubbard Street dancers and I have a long-term relationship with the company.’ I look forward to working with the new dancers and creating, what I believe, will be a very special dance – one that will challenge me as well as them.”

Known for her playful style, Twyla Tharp returns to Hubbard Street Dance Chicago after 15 years where she was instrumental in creating and setting a plush repertoire of work, helping to form the renowned dance company that exists today.  Beginning the creative process in June 2011 and returning to Hubbard Street Dance Center in early September, Tharp is deep in the creative process of this new commission.   Currently untitled, Tharp’s new work is set to a selection of sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti, which is helping to inform the structure of the piece.  This world premiere will also feature costumes from fashion icon Norma Kamali’s fall collection.

Hubbard Street Dance Chicago has created a new subscription series  offer for the LGBT community – an offer that combines dance and culture with an opportunity to mix, mingle and network!

For $200 a subscription gets you THREE premiere section seats and an pre-performance cocktail party!  What is not to love about that?

Circuit Mom Productions Present ZOMBIE REVOLUTION Oct. 29th

FASTEN YOUR SEATBELTS LADIES AND GENTLEMEN…..

HALLOWEEN IS GOING TO ROCK THIS YEAR IN CHICAGO!!

Chicago’s biggest and best party promoter returns  Saturday, October 29th!

In June of 2011, Matthew Harvat, owner of Circuit Mom Productions, Inc. launched a new 4 part series of high end, large production gay dance parties called “REVOLUTION” at Chicago’s famed House Of Blues.

Each event has had an exciting line up of national and international talent as well as amazing themes and production numbers to continually entice and build the REVOLUTION fan base as well as help bring Chicago back to the forefront of national attention for amazing LGBT parties.

With the audiences growing larger and stronger at each event, the fourth and final party, “ZOMBIE REVOLUTION” being held on Saturday, October 29, 2011 will not only end the eight year absence of a major Saturday night Halloween dance party for the gay community, but also cap off a spectacular first year of new events and only build excitement for the 2012 REVOLUTION series kicking off during next years Gay Pride.

This Halloween event will feature  a spectacular laser show to  accompany the amazing talents of Grammy nominated producer/DJ/remixer Tony Moran, (pictured below)  who’s gold record roster includes some of the biggest names in music.  Cher, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Sting, Luther Vandross and Deborah Cox are but a few of Tony’s masterful success stories.

Pair this DJ’s brilliance with the set design, laser show, costuming and production numbers produced by Matthew Harvat featuring dancers from Chicago’s internationally successful dancers from the Joffrey Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Company and Gus Giordano with choreography by Todd M. Kiech, and you have a night of Halloween Zombie madness you will not soon forget.

Chicago superstar DJ Phil DaBeatz has also come on board to bring his own tribal magic to this amazing party.  A jam packed event of visual and aural pleasure in true Halloween and Circuit MOM fashion.

We are keeping ticket prices very low in comparison to other events of this magnitude.  We want to make the event more accessible to the masses, especially in the current economy.  House Of Blues has agreed to keep pricing low to help build the brand for the future and talent is coming in at discounted pricing as well.

2012 should be an amazing second year for REVOLUTION to continue to grow its world class vision and continue to raise Chicago’s LGBT dance party events to a higher level nationwide.

In the spirit of giving back and sharing their successes, CircuitMOM Productions, Inc. has partnered with The StandUP Foundation, Inc, to stop the bullying of not only LGBT kids, but any child or person worldwide.  A portion of each ticket sold goes directly to The StandUP Foundation, Inc, which in turn supports organizations that help combat this universal problem and keep kids safe, strong and builds self confidence.

Dance for Life Chicago on PBS Wttw 11 on August 11

    Dance for Life

    Brings Twenty Years
    of Strength and Community
    in the Fight Against HIV/AIDS
    to the Big Screen

Moving Documentary on Two-Decade Journey Premieres on WTTW-11 on Aug. 11, 10 p.m.

In its 20-year journey, the original small grassroots dance performance event, Dance for Life, has evolved to support HIV/AIDS services in Chicago and financially assist those living with HIV/AIDS within the dance community into the Midwest’s largest, must-see performance, raising nearly $175,000 annually for the cause. Now, a new, riveting documentary, which debuts on Thursday, Aug. 11 at 10 p.m. on WTTW 11, follows the emotional journey and shares the passion of Dance for Life in a style that can best capture its essence: dance.

The hour-long film paints the story of Dance for Life through electrifying choreography and personal stories. Shared in one-on-one interviews with the dancers, founders and supporters, these narratives convey the significance and evolution of Dance for Life throughout the film.  It will premiere only nine days before the twentieth anniversary performance in Chicago on Saturday, Aug. 20 at the Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Congress Parkway.

Produced by Emmy Award-winning HMS Media, the documentary is a poignant look at the need for renewed hope and for a cure. Chronicling the 30-year impact of HIV/AIDS in Chicago and its large dance community, the film illustrates the evolution of the fundraiser. Founders Harriet Ross, Keith Elliott, Danny Kopelson and Gail Kalver, as well as beneficiaries, choreographers and dancers recount the impact of HIV/AIDS and their desire for continued progress.

    (Photographs by Sando)

Dance for Life initially empowered the dance community in Chicago to take care of itself,” said Elliott, a former dancer with Joseph Chicago Holmes Dance Theater. “The documentary empowers Chicagoans to understand the power of the HIV/AIDS movement and offers a way to get involved while experiencing the best dance the city has to offer.”

From flamenco to Fosse-style jazz, performance excerpts serve as a backdrop for the emotional, yet triumphant story of Dance for Life’s origins and its future. Participants featured in the documentary include Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater, Giordano Jazz Dance Chicago, Thodos Dance Chicago, The Joffrey Ballet, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago and River North Chicago Dance Company.  Archival clips illustrate the event’s meteoric rise, having grown from the first sold-out performance at the former 400 seat Organic Theatre to this year’s event at the 4,000 seat Auditorium Theatre.

Dance for Life began as an effort to promote the art of dance in Chicago, while raising awareness of and supporting HIV/AIDS services in Chicago. Later, the Dance for Life Fund was formed as a program to ease the financial burden of Chicago dancers dying of complications of AIDS. As treatment for HIV/AIDS has evolved, so has the Dance for Life Fund. It now helps dancers battling any life-threatening condition to get back on their feet and continue to pursue their passion for dance. Proceeds from this year’s performance will exclusively benefit the AIDS Foundation of Chicago and the Dance for Life Fund.

“The dedication of staff, dance companies and volunteers is as astounding as the level of artistry,” said Harriet Ross, co-founder of Dance for Life. “Though its purpose is practical, the performance enlightens and educates. We sincerely hope that life will continue to mirror art as survival rates improve and as Dance for Life continues to flourish.”

Dance for Life the documentary will air on Thursday, Aug. 11 at 10 p.m. on WTTW 11.

The live, on-stage performance of Dance for Life will be held on Saturday, August 20 at the Auditorium Theatre, 50 E. Congress Parkway, in Chicago. Tickets are $50-$75 for the 7:30 p.m. performance, with tickets for the 4:30 p.m. gala and performance ranging from $175-$500. Tickets are available at Danceforlifechicago.com or by calling 312-922-5812.

Since 1992, Dance for Life has raised more than $4 million in the fight against HIV/AIDS; showcased Chicago’s top professional dance companies; financially established a fund that provides assistance to dancers living with HIV/AIDS; helped to support and produce five spin-off pre-events; and helped raise money for many of Chicago’s leading AIDS organizations.
