Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Prez Obama Push for Illinois Gay Marriage

President Obama
has waded into a same-sex marriage debate in his home state of Illinois
– with the White House saying the president would vote for the measure
if he were still in the legislature.

“While the president does not weigh in on every measure being
considered by state legislatures, he believes in treating everyone
fairly and equally, with dignity and respect,” White House spokesman
Shin Inouye told the Chicago Sun-Times on Saturday.

“As he has said, his personal view is that it’s wrong to prevent
couples who are in loving, committed relationships, and want to marry,
from doing so,” Inouye continued. “Were the President still in the
Illinois State Legislature, he would support this measure that would
treat all Illinois couples equally.”

Illinois lawmakers may take up the measure, called the “Religious
Freedom and Marriage Fairness Act,” as early as this week, the Sun-Times
reported.

Modern Family actor Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Illinois Lt. Gov. Sheila
Simon
are planning a fashion-forward action this week to push for
marriage equality in The Prairie State.

On Wednesday, they’re encouraging voters to call lawmakers and tell
them to support marriage equality. Then, on Thursday, they’re organizing
Bow Tie Lobby Day at the General Assembly to get equality passed before
the end of the current session. Supportive lawmakers have vowed to do just that.

More details, from The Southern Illinoisan:

Simon and Ferguson will be joined by marriage equality advocates to
encourage Illinoisans to contact their legislators on Wednesday and join
a Bow Tie Lobby Day in Springfield on Thursday that urges the General
Assembly to pass marriage equality legislation during the January
legislative session, according to a news release from Simon’s office.

“It is our responsibility to ensure that everyone is treated equally
under the law, and right now we have a group of citizens that we are
treating as second-class,” Simon said. “Bringing marriage equality to
Illinois is the right thing to do.”

“Justin and I are thrilled to be participating in Springfield’s Bow
Tie Lobby Day. Drawing attention to the importance of marriage equality
at this level is exactly why we developed Tie The Knot,” Ferguson said.
“We are also excited to see how the citizens and legislators of Illinois
do with their bow tying skills.”

Tie the Knot, for those of you who don’t know, is Ferguson and fiance
Justin Mikita’s (pictured) organization that designs original bowties
and donates a portion of the proceeds to marriage equality causes.

If Illinois’ lawmakers make good and pass equality, it will be the 10th state to let same-sex couples marry.

About Face Theatre presents We 3 Lizas

A MUST SEE HOLIDAY SHOW
with not one Liza – but THREE!
About Face Theatre blends classic Christmas tales with queer
pop culture for its world premiere holiday production WE THREE LIZAS with book and lyrics by
AFT Artistic Associate Scott Bradley, music and additional lyrics by Alan Schmuckler, directed
by AFT Artistic Associate Scott Ferguson, playing through  December 23, 2012 in The
Steppenwolf Garage, 1624 N. Halsted St., Chicago.
WE THREE LIZAS hijacks Christmas classics to create a dark, sexy holiday musical for a queer new world. In a quest for unrivaled glory, Conrad Ticklebottom and his anxious assistant Reggie conjure the Great Queen of Wishes to bestow upon him the trinity of power: youth, wealth and beauty. Instead, Liza Minnelli knocks at Conrad’s door bearing holiday gifts and all hell breaks lose. Three distinct and mystical versions of Liza Minelli come to bestow their gifts in a Christmas Carol-style to Conrad. The three versions of Liza include her at her peak from the 1970s. Then Liza as we know her today from her Arrested Development TV roles and then we are treated to a sort of future Liza.
WE THREE LIZAS features AFT Artistic Associates Scott Bradley, Scott Duff, John Francisco and Arturo Soria with Sean Blake, Sharriese Hamilton, Sean Michael Hunt, Danielle Plisz, Andrew Swan, Dana Tretta and AJ Ware. Musicians include Alan Schmuckler (Piano), Jed Feder (Drums) and Brandon Mitchell (Bass).

You probably know the name Scott Bradley, who is part of the Scooty and JoJo team, who is best known for his locally produced super camp musicals like Alien Queen, Rosemary Clooneys Baby and Carpenters Halloween. “Really, Liza still sits in this strange place,” Bradeley says. “Everyone knows about Liza as a gay icon because of her resilience – taking the knocks and coming back. She always lived in a different realm than the rest of us. She has always been a part of a Hollywood and Broadway mythology.”

The creators of We 3 Lizas hope that the show will develop a following and become an annual tradition for About Face Theatre. And judging from the response of yesterdays audience, everyone LOVED IT and will keep this show alive for years to come.

This is like a New York show – in Chicago. The Steppenwolf space is awesome. Staging and costumes were brilliant, and the cast was TOP NOTCH. There is a cool lounge space attached with full a full service bar and $5 Drinks! Yes, $5 drinks!

Show times include a 45-minute “cocktail hour” in Liza’s Lounge with special opening acts by guest artists at each show. So the first 45 minutes is very casual, showcasing different talents. Then the main show runs 1 hour and 40 minutes.
Thursdays & Fridays at 7 pm;
Saturdays at 3 pm & 7 pm; Sundays at 7 pm.
Tickets are $25. $15 students. This is SUCH A DEAL, for a show of this caliber.
Discounts available for groups of ten or more.
Tickets are currently on sale through Steppenwolf Audience Services
online at www.steppenwolf.org or by calling (312) 335-1650.

Scrooge & Marley is a modern day variation on Charles Dickens’
classic story of the holidays, “A Christmas Carol.” On Christmas Eve,
Ben Scrooge, the man who hates the holidays, is given the chance to

Loni Love comes to Up Comedy Club Dec. 6-9

Loni Love has been a comedy favorite ever since she started spouting witty one-liners on VH1’s flagship I Love the…
series. But now this engineer-turned-comedian has become the go-to
woman for several funny quips and segments taking up space (thankfully
so) on DVRs across the country.

I first fell in love with Loni when she was on Star Search in 2003.

Love has been named by Variety as “one of the top 10 comics to watch”
and regularly appears as a round table panelist on E!’s “Chelsea
Lately.”

Loni has a big gay following and she emceed the Equality Awards for Long Island Gay and Lesbian Youth.

” It
was great. I learned a lot — because it was for Long Island, there were
24 senators who actually voted for the marriage equality act. Some of
them were honored there, and it was really like an overall push. They’re
trying to raise funds so that senators that believe in equality can
still stay in office. There are some threats to them for being voted out
of office. A lot of it has to do with them being voted out of office
because they don’t have the money to campaign. It was a really good
event — they also honored a couple of other actors and it was really
nice.”

She IS NOT a lesbian. But when asked, If someone decides to start a lesbian rumor about you, do you think that would mess up your game?
No,
because in my act everybody knows I talk about the lesbians and how I
feel about them. If they know me and they know my act, they know that it
would be a rumor. I won’t lie — it probably would help me! [Laughs] It would probably help my game.”

Love is not a one-note performer. She has opinions on a multitude of
subjects and puts an amusing spin on politics in particular. In
explaining Barack Obama’s black and white sides, one of the examples she
gives is that he travels with an entourage (white), but they ride in
Cadillac Escalades (black).

An admirer of Obama (except for his dancing [white]), she speaks of
his intelligence and intellectualism. “We went from a president that
would make up words to a president that would make us look up words when he talked.” She frequently tweets her political thoughts.

Loni’s first love is performing for live audiences. She puts it quite simply “I love to make people laugh!” And you can catch her live in Chicago at UP COMEDY CLUB. Dec. 6-9th. Performing 6 shows. $17-$20.

Lady Gaga at Louis Vuitton on Michigan Ave

Yesterday, like in many recent days, River North office folk were
treated to commotion in the streets and hunky firefighting actors of Chicago Fire, a TV show currently filming here. I was actually driving on Dearborn street right about the time a fires/scene was about to shoot and traffic was a nightmare!

FROM CHICAGO RACKED: One of our intrepid photogs caught Mister Taylor Kinney makin’ that bacon while his glitzy girlfriend, Lady Gaga was seen shopping at Louis Vuitton, spending the aforementioned bacon.

GAGA  was  at eating at Chicago Diner a couple weeks back, in Boystown.
