Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame Event Nov. 12
Twelve individuals and three
organizations will be inducted Nov. 12 into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of
Fame, the country’s only known government-sponsored hall of fame that honors
members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) communities.
The inductees were selected by a
committee composed of former inductees, which reviewed nominations submitted by
members of the public. The names were released by Friends of the Chicago Gay
and Lesbian Hall of Fame, a section 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
The chosen nominees will be
inducted at the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame’s annual ceremony, which
will take place from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, at the Chicago History Museum, 1601 N. Clark
St., Chicago. The reception begins at 5:30 p.m., and the program is scheduled
for 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
“It makes us proud that, even 21
years after our first ceremony, there are still important figures from the past
and a constantly growing list of current Chicagoans whose accomplishments and
community contributions merit being honored by the Hall of Fame,” said Israel Wright, executive director of Friends of the
Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame.
“We are grateful that individual
Chicagoans have stepped forward to assist us, through Friends of the Chicago
Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame, in maintaining a needed and historically
significant institution,” said Gary Chichester, a co-chairperson of the Friends
organization.

Terrance Jawan Wright – Hate Crime Shooting in Chicago
I hate to talk about bad and sad news – but we thought this story deserved attention.
A Chicago high school student was shot and killed during an alleged
robbery Friday afternoon in the Southeast Side’s Jeffery Manor
neighborhood, according to Chicago police
The grandmother of the victim, 18-year-old Terrance “Jawan” Wright, talked with WGN about her grandson Saturday.
Jawan was on his way home from school Friday, when police say he was
the victim of robbery. He tried to fight off five young men who came up
to him near 99th and Yates. Police say, to steal what he had—
“But that’s not true,” what do you think it was? “A hate crime” Why? Because Jawan is gay.” His grandmother said.
It’s
not the first time Jawan’s sexual orientation was an issue, Essie
says. Last year, her grandson transferred to Banner Academy, after
being picked on at his last school. But she says, the bullying
continued.
“I was told the boys were picking on Jawan, Jawan was
on his way home and the boys just started picking on him and calling him
names so they tried to take Jawan’s book bag. So then Jawan and the
boys got to fighting.”
“That’s when police say one of the boys pulled out a gun and killed Jawan.
Tywan Bouldin, Jawan’s uncle said “He was a good kid. He didn’t bother nobody.”
Tywan wiped away his tears before talking about his nephew. He believes it was more than robbery.
“For
them to say it was a robbery is foolishness because like I said what
are they going to rob him of? School supplies or books? His shoes or
his clothes. He don’t wear stuff like that. So what was the point.”

Sci-Fi Meets Theatre as Intergalactic Nemesis hits Chicago
How It Works:
Three actors voice dozens of characters, one artist creates hundreds of
sounds, and one keyboardist accompanies while more than 1,000
hand-drawn, blow-your-mind comic-book images blast from a large screen.
The Story:
The year is 1933. Pulitzer Prize-winner Molly Sloan and her intrepid
assistant Timmy Mendez have traveled to Transylvania to meet a key
contact for a story about illegal pelt smuggling. As the crackling
fireplace warms the room against the blizzard outside, their contact,
Vlad, tells them that their story is at a dead end: all of the smugglers
have either disappeared or been killed by … something.
rumors of monsters in the Carpathian Mountains. Vlad hands Molly and
Timmy a map of something called the Central Hive when suddenly an
assassin appears in the doorway and Vlad falls dead, a knife in his
back.
Almost as suddenly, a mysterious and handsome stranger appears
behind the assassin, throws the assassin into the roaring fire, and
tells Molly and Timmy to run for their lives. Reporter Molly Sloan and
her assistant Timmy Mendez have stumbled upon the story of the century.

York. “We’ve been thrilled to see our collectors fully embrace the
Intuit galleries and artists, so this year we are integrating those
galleries under one unifying fair umbrella, SOFA CHICAGO 2012.”
“It really is a feast for the eyes!” says Derrick Sorles, of InsideYourChicago.com
Glass will be a major focus this year as SOFA will be celebrating the 50th
