Glenns Diner and Seafood House in Ravenswood - Best Fresh Fish and King Crab Legs in Chicago

BEST FOOD IN THE WORLD?!

You have to have some pretty big balls to use that as your tagline! So naturally we were intrigued, nonetheless.

Located at  1820 W. Montrose, in the Ravenswood/ Lincoln Square neighborhood, right across  from  SCOTS BAR,  is  GLENN'S DINER. Which is nothing like you would imagine it  to be. And we think this is one of our area's best kept secrets - but not for long!

Glenn's Diner was created 4 years ago with the desire to re-invent the diner, and also add  fresh seafood and nice dinner entres.  Casual, everyday food, but yet full of flavor. "My background is in seafood so we have a strong emphasis on fresh fish and seafood,"  says  owner  Glenn. It's fresh, simple preparations, fairly priced.

Open daily 7 days a week, huge selections of breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Breakfast starts with 25 selections of cereal! Then you have choices  like  buttermilk  pancakes, chocolate chip pancakes, Georgia pecan pancakes, omelette's done your way, corned beef hash and eggs...and best of all, you can get breakfast anytime! Most of breakfast can be had for under $10.

Lunch offers tasty and interesting  things like a Black and Blue burger for  $8, Russian Rueben $8 and a Shrimp BLT for $13.

Dinner at the diner is  busy time! I have heard of a  two hour wait sometimes.  Make a reservation to be  safe. No less than  20 selections of fresh fish daily!  Things like Alaskan Halibut, Yellow Fin Tuna, King Salmon, Pacific Swordfish, Columbia Sturgeon. Most priced  $17-$25 - but on Mondays, most of the fish entrées are just  $15. And the rest of the week,
if  you don't mind dining before 6pm, you can grab a half pound fresh fish entrée  for $14.

On our recent visit there we started out with the Blue Star Crab Cakes and the Pan Fried Sea Scallops.  Both were served with a nice subtle sauce on the side.  Both were perfection. They also offer the best Shrimp Cocktail in the WORLD! 4.5 oz of pure white ecstasy at  $12 a pop.

For dinner we had the Yellow Fin Tuna with a  mildly spicey hollandaise sauce and the Halibut with blue cheese sauce on the side.

Both were excellent.  The Halubut was absolutely melt-in-your-mouth ~ cooked to perfection!

For a fresh fish or seafood lover who is visiting Chicago or lives north of downtown, this is THE PLACE to go.

Service and staff were exceptional, with several of the waiters offering up some nice eye candy to enjoy during our stay as well!
If you really do not want seafood or fish,  they have PLENTY of steaks and over half dozen other entrees and specials to select from as well.

TUESDAYS  are one of the busiest, most popular nights  with  all you can eat Alaskan King Crab Legs for $34.
Wednesdays are all you can eat Baby Back Ribs $17, and Thursdays are all you can eat Peel and Eat Shrimp $17.
They have a broad beer, wine and liquor selection PLUS you can BYOB inside for a $5 cork fee.

They have been written up and recieved rave reviews by Zagat, CenterStage, Urban Spoon, Check Please, Diners Drive Ins and Dives, and of course now, our site.

Reservations strongly suggested - I would say mandatory in the Winter, when the patio is closed.
