Holiday Cooking Doesn't Have To Be A Drag! Just Ask A Queen!

Drag Queen Cookbook: a fun and entertaining cookbook that fuses the art of cuisine with the art of drag queens!

Cooking Doesn't Have To Be A Drag! Vol. 1 is a cookbook like no other! This coffee table book contains over 50 photos of the most fabulous drag queens, quotes, entertainment and of course yummy recipes!

Volume 1 is a collection of recipes that have been collected and created by the Chicago author himself (Stephen J. Bieniek / Kris Coe), as well as from the girls!

With the Holidays here and parties in full swing, you're most likely trying to figure out some unique dish to bring to the dreaded office pot luck or the most anticipated Holiday bash or family gathering!

The season seems to bring an overabundance of delectable meats from the clubs to the market. Therefore, I enjoy making some of the simple foods from the drag queen cookbook, "Cooking Doesn't Have to be a Drag!" that just happen to be meat-free (except for one couldn't leave it out!)
Here are a few recipes from the book that will make everyone glow with delight!
The recipes are easy for those on the go!

Love and kisses -Kris Coe

Jackie Beat's EZ Taco Salad
(great anytime)
1 dozen hard shell  beef tacos from Taco Bell
1 large salad bowl
1 set serving tongs

Crush all tacos in serving bowl. Serve with tongs.

Gerdy's Bok Choy (great side served with deep-fried Turkey or southern holiday theme)
1 cup olive oil
1/4 cup red wine
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1 tablespoon soy sauce
4 baby bok choy
water

In a medium saucepan, combine first four ingredients. Add bok choy and enough water to cover bok choy completely. Simmer for one hour turning every 10 to 15 minutes. Serves 2.

Glazed Carrots (great with any entree)
1 pound carrots, peeled and cut 1/4-inch thick
2 tablespoons butter
pinch of salt
1 cup ginger ale
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine carrots, butter, salt, and ginger ale. Cover and bring to a simmer. Once simmering, remove lid and reduce heat. Continue stirring, add chili powder and cook for another 4-5 minutes or until a glaze forms. Place in serving bowl and top with parsley. Serves 4.

Aunt Jan's Kaluha Cups
(punch bowl style)

1 boxed chocolate cake
6 tablespoons Kahlua
3 tablespoons raspberry or plain vodka
1 6 ounce box instant chocolate pudding
1 pint fresh raspberries
3 Heath bars crushed
1 container Cool Whip

Make cake as instructed on box the day before serving or early that day. Prick cake with a fork and pour the Kahlua and vodka over cake allowing the liquor to soak in.

Make pudding according to package and set aside. Cut cake into 12 equal pieces and place two pieces into a large wine glass. It may crumble, so just guesstimate! Add some raspberries to each glass, followed by some pudding, and crushed Heath bar.

Top off with a large dollop of Cool Whip and sprinkle with more crushed Heath bar. You can also use kiwi or strawberries instead of raspberries, or use all three at once! This can also be layered in a punch bowl for less formal affairs. Serves 6.

Cooking Doesn't Have To Be A Drag! vol.1 makes a great gift for yourself or others. Whether giving or receiving, it will be a gift to remember!  And the best part is that the book benefits the AIDS Foundation of Chicago!
